September Update: Automatic Rejection of Toxic Domains and Typos

  • 30 September, 2024

At AhaSend, we’re committed to improving the security and deliverability of your emails. That’s why we’re excited to introduce two new features that help you automatically reject email messages sent to recipients from toxic domains and recipients with typos in their email addresses. These tools are designed to enhance your email hygiene, protect your domain reputation, and prevent potential security threats.

1. Automatically Reject Emails to Toxic or Temporary Domains

Toxic domains are often associated with phishing, spam, and other malicious activities, while temporary email domains are commonly used to bypass trial limitations or create fake accounts. Sending emails to such addresses can harm your sender reputation and lead to poor deliverability.

With this feature, AhaSend enables you to:

  • Automatically reject emails sent to a list of over 200,000 known toxic and temporary email domains.
  • Prevent delivery to high-risk recipients, reducing the likelihood of being flagged by spam filters.
  • Maintain your domain’s reputation by avoiding interactions with harmful or unreliable addresses.

When enabled, any attempt to send emails to these domains will be rejected with the error message: "553 Requested action not taken: recipient domain is toxic or tempmail."

This proactive measure ensures your resources are focused on genuine, high-quality recipients.

2. Automatically Reject Emails to Domains with Typos

Typos happen—recipients might accidentally type “gmil.com” instead of “gmail.com,” or other common misspellings. Unfortunately, some of these misspelled domains are registered by attackers for typo-squatting, a technique used to gather sensitive information or conduct phishing attacks.

With this feature, AhaSend offers:

  • Automated detection of common typos in recipient email domains.
  • Protection against typo-squatting attacks that exploit these mistakes.
  • Improved email hygiene by eliminating invalid or risky addresses from your campaigns.

When activated, emails to these mistyped domains will be rejected with the error message: "553 Requested action not taken: recipient domain has common a typo."

This ensures your emails reach legitimate recipients while protecting your users from potential threats.

How to Enable These Features

We highly recommend enabling these security features to improve your deliverability and domain reputation. The good news is that it’s easy to get started with these new security features:

  1. Log in to your AhaSend dashboard.
  2. Navigate to the Account Settings in your account.
  3. Under the Security section, enable the options to reject emails to toxic domains or domains with typos.
  4. Save your settings, and you’re all set!

With just a few clicks, you can significantly improve the quality and security of your email campaigns.

Why These Features Matter

Email deliverability and security go hand in hand. By rejecting emails to toxic or typo-laden domains, you:

  • Protect your sender reputation from harmful associations.
  • Save resources by avoiding invalid or fraudulent recipients.
  • Enhance user trust by reducing the risk of phishing and malicious activities.

These features are just the latest in our ongoing effort to provide you with the most reliable, secure, and efficient email solution. We’re excited to see how they help you optimize your email communications and maintain the integrity of your emails.
